Merseyside Amateur Radio Society

Introduction

Merseyside Amateur Radio Society (M.A.R.S.) is a friendly group of people of all ages and from all walks of life who share a common interest in Amateur Radio. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in Amateur Radio and related communication technologies.

Many of our members are licensed Radio Amateurs and operate their own amateur radio stations. We meet on the  first Monday of each month (unless it is a bank holiday) from 07:30 pm to 10:00 pm, at Mel Inn Social Club to run open forums, discussions and presentations. Please see the location page for details. We run training courses and take part in contests and events.

Please feel free to contact us for further details about Merseyside Amateur Radio Society or amateur radio in general.

Committee Members

Our committee officers are all keen volunteers elected by fellow society members.

Come along to one of our meetings and see us in person.

Lee (G0DBE)
Chair
Lee received his callsign - G0DBE in 1985. He was soon hit by the DX bug and has been extremely active for nearly 40 years, gaining tremendous experience in constructing antennas and has worked with all 340 of the current DXCC entities on phone with North Korea being the only exception on CW.
Alan (G4NXG)
Secretary
Alan was introduced to Amateur Radio, over sixty years ago, in 1960, by his secondary school science teacher G3ABG and became a keen Short-Wave Listener. After passing the City and Guilds Radio Amateur Examination (R.A.E.) during 1969, he was initially licenced in 1981 as G6AJB (the suffix being his initials) then after taking the Post Office Morse Test, became G4NXG in 1982. His main interest is mobile HF DX chasing with all of the current 340 DXCC entities being worked to gain DXCC #1 Honor Roll status.
Eddie (G6OPV)
Treasurer
Eddie first had an interest in radio after being given an electronics experimenter kit as a Christmas present, aged ten. This progressed to him becoming an SWL for many years. In 1982 he passed the RAE and got his G6OPV callsign. Family and work commitments caused him to be inactive for many years until taking up the hobby again in 2016.
Ian (M0OES)
Media Manager
Ian started his journey into amateur radio in the Falkland Islands, where he held the callsign VP8 DMA. He returned to the UK and took his Foundation exam in December 2018, becoming a Full Licence holder in July 2019.
